There are people who will say that the war began in Stamford, when a clash between a handful of escaped inmates from Ryker's Island Prison and several B-string heroes filming a reality show ended in over six hundred deaths. There are people who will say that the war was brewing far earlier than that - some that will say that the war is one of ideals and the complex evolution...or decay...of the American superhuman and America itself as a whole. But it only really started when a registered teenaged mutant girl in Texas went to the hospital with a high fever. Her internal organs shut down, a rash bubbled across her skin, and her mutated DNA continued to contort until she was almost unrecognizable as human. She was Patient Zero, and that is where the war really started. Within twenty hours, over a dozen similar cases appeared. A week later, the count was over a hundred and registered and unregistered superhumans everywhere were put into a state of panic. The Civil War is still raging, but both sides have a new enemy - one that threatens to consume all metahumans. But where did it come from? How did it start? Is it a natural disease, or is it another way for the government to crack down on damages done by the caped community? No one has the answer, nor do they have a cure. Rumor has it that even the great Tony Stark, the Iron Man, has gotten the Heat - but that is only hearsay. Nowadays, most of the news is hearsay. Hard fact has been brushed aside by hysteria and the rising death count. Superhumans are on the edge of being destroyed, but, in the end, it's anyone's guess if it'll be from Heat Death or each other.. |
